Court remands Ekiti man for allegedly defrauding rice firm N2.2m

An Ekiti State Magistrate’s Court has ordered that one Olu Bamidele be remanded in a custodial centre for allegedly defrauding a rice distribution company, Jamesvic and Company, of N2.2m.

The police prosecutor, Samson Osobu, said the defendant was “reasonably suspected to have committed the offence of fraud to the tune of N2,242,000 belonging to Jamesvic and Company (A.K.A. Mopelola Rice Distributor) within Ado the Ekiti Magisterial District, around February, 2021.”

“The offence is punishable under Section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud-Related Offences Act”, the prosecutor added.

Osobu pleaded with the court to remand the defendant to enable him to forward a duplicate of the case file to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

The Magistrate, who granted the request, ordered that the defendant be remanded.

The Magistrate adjourned the matter till October 6, 2021 for mention.
